  40. Probably one of those gain-type duckies that Diamond/Comet/etc. sell may 
  41. be flexible enough but some of them are 15" long and may be more of a 
  42. problem length-wise.

  44. If you're just looking for a ducky for the sake of having a rubber duck 
  45. antenna and not worried about performance, look into the "stubby" ducks 
  46. some antenna manufactures sell (larson, for one).  Short and not liable 
  47. to get in the way, IMHO.

  60. A guy I know recently installed a Discone Antenna (R-S brand) and 50 ft of 
  61. RG 58 for his scanner.  Problem: The rubber duck on the handheld unit, 20 
  62. ft lower than the outside antenna works better than the discone.  Eppley 
  63. field and their aircraft and Omaha PD (UHF) are full quieting on the duck, 
  64. barely audible on the outside antenna.  He swapped out the coax for 
  65. another run of '58 with the same result.  He swapped out the discone for 
  66. one of the 3 vertical rod scanner antennas.  I haven't heard yet how well 
  67. that worked out.  Does anyone have a suggestion what the problem could 
  68. have been?  How could the antenna have been so bad?
